MiraDry is a non-invasive medical procedure designed to reduce underarm sweat, odor, and hair using thermal energy. The process typically begins with a consultation and evaluation to determine if the patient is a suitable candidate. On the day of the procedure, the treatment area is marked and local anesthesia is applied to ensure comfort. The MiraDry device is then used to deliver precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to the underarm area, targeting and eliminating sweat and odor glands. This controlled energy heats and effectively destroys the glands, which do not regenerate, leading to a permanent reduction in sweating and odor.
The entire procedure usually lasts about one hour per underarm. After the treatment, patients might experience some temporary swelling, redness, and discomfort in the treated area, which typically resolves within a few days. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain medications can help manage any post-procedural symptoms. Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately or within a few days after the procedure, although it is recommended to avoid vigorous physical exercise for a week to prevent excessive strain on the treated areas. Results are often noticeable immediately, with a significant reduction in sweat and odor, and a secondary benefit of hair reduction in the treated area.
